Purpose
For a large number of students in Aachen, there is no access to manufacturing machines and tools to put the theoretical knowledge acquired during their studies into practice. Furthermore, there were hardly any opportunities to use suitable tools and machines for personal projects and ideas, and thus to learn the proper and safe handling of such machines at the same time.
Studiwerkstatt Aachen was founded as a non-profit association with the goal of eliminating precisely this situation and enriching the study location Aachen with an extraordinary project. However, it is not only aimed at students — everyone who enjoys designing and building is welcome! Specifically, Studiwerkstatt Aachen provides the following:
- Provision of premises, tools, and machines
- Offering workshops and training courses
- Serving as a platform for the exchange of experience
- Exhibition of demonstration objects to complement academic teaching
- Cooperation with other student initiatives
Organisation
Studiwerkstatt Aachen is organised as a non-profit association and does not generate any profits. All income is used to cover running costs or is reinvested. The workshop can be used freely by every association member during opening hours. During opening hours, a workshop supervisor is always present, who is responsible for all questions regarding tools and machines as well as safe working practices.
The smaller machines and tools can be used freely at any time without reservation. For larger machines and/or those with a certain hazard potential, a prior induction is mandatory.
