You can never have enough tool holders for our lathes – you always need one more holder, one more tool geometry for the perfect cut.
So we decided to take matters into our own hands – thanks to our universal milling machine with the ALLMATIC Titan2M vise, no problem at all.
From a large plate of 1.2312 (40CrMnMoS8-6) tool steel, more manageable blocks were cut on the band saw. The full-width slot was quickly done with a 16mm solid carbide end mill.
More time-consuming was correctly measuring and aligning the workpiece for the angled grooves on the back, which also serve as the clamping surfaces for mounting on the lathe.
For height adjustment, we turned screws with oversized heads from 10mm stainless steel round stock, milled flats, drilled, tapped threads, and then glued them in at the correct orientation.
In total, we were able to add five new tool holders to our inventory!
